MTO Trails is one of White River’s top outdoor attractions — a vast playground of trails set across plantations, forests and granite outcrops. With more than 48 km of flowing singletrack and 74 km of jeep track, it’s a favourite for mountain bikers, hikers, runners and nature lovers. The gentle gradients make the trails accessible for families and casual riders, while technical sections and longer loops keep seasoned adventurers challenged.
The historic Stone House Cottage sits at the centre of the trail network, offering self-catering stays with a sense of history and quiet seclusion. Roy’s Quay, a lapa on the dam’s edge, provides shady spots to rest, picnic or celebrate after a day on the trails. Beyond cycling, the area is alive with birdlife, walking routes, and the simple joy of being outdoors in the Lowveld landscape. Permits are required and can be purchased on site or through the myMTO app.
